Whatcom County is small enough to drive across in an hour and varied enough that a roof in Blaine and a roof in Deming are two different problems. Salt air on the coast. Wind funnelling down out of the Fraser Valley across Lynden. Fir needles and moss in the shaded Bellingham hill neighbourhoods. Snow load once you get up the Mount Baker Highway.
We work all of it, and we price the drive honestly rather than pretending distance costs nothing.
The county
Hill neighbourhoods above the bay, craftsman bungalows through Columbia, Sunnyland and York, mid century runs on Alabama Hill and Silver Beach, newer stock out at Barkley and Cordata. Mature fir shades most of it, which is why moss and needle load in the valleys are the two things we deal with most.
Flat ground, open sky, and very little tree break between a house and the weather. Wind driven rain hits the north and west elevations hard, and the 1990s and 2000s subdivision stock out here has the shallow pitches that punish a sloppy panel lap.
Farm country up against the border. Long roof runs on barns, shops and outbuildings alongside newer in town homes. This is where the Fraser outflow lands hardest in winter, and where an unclipped panel edge finds out.
Drayton Harbor, Semiahmoo, and constant salt air off the Strait. Fastener and flashing corrosion shows up years earlier here than it does inland, which changes what we specify rather than just how we install it.
Same salt exposure as Blaine, on a mix of older seasonal cabins and newer full time homes. Roofs that sit empty half the year get looked at less and leak longer before anyone notices.
Nooksack valley farmland, outbuildings and shop roofs, and homes that have been through flooding. Long simple panel runs, and a lot of roofs where a coating is the honest answer rather than a replacement.
Border town with a lot of rebuild and repair stock since the 2021 flooding. Agricultural buildings, exposed sites, and foothills close enough to change the wind.
The exclave. Getting a crew and a load of panels there means two border crossings, so scheduling and cost work differently. We do work there, we just tell you up front what the access adds.

Custer, Deming, Maple Falls, Kendall, Acme, Van Zandt, Glacier and the rest of the county. If you are inside Whatcom County, call and ask. If you are just outside it, ask anyway, we will tell you honestly whether the drive makes sense for the size of the job.
